Finding Comfort in Surrender

Updated: Nov 8, 2023

Life's journey is often marked by unexpected twists and turns. Our instinct might be to grasp the wheel with both hands and to steer our course with a firm grip. Yet, surrendering control is often the better option and doesn't imply defeat; rather, it signifies a profound recognition of our human limitations. It is in surrender that we allow the currents of life to carry us, leading us to places we might not have ventured on our own. That is not to say that you just throw your hands up in the air, and wave them like you just don’t care; it’s more of a Jesus take the wheel scenario.

Surrender is intertwined with faith and trust. It involves releasing our fears and uncertainties into the hands of a higher power. This trust can transform us, emboldening us to face challenges with a heart unburdened by the weight of uncertainty. Surrendering, however, does require vulnerability and the willingness to acknowledge that we cannot always chart our own course. Sharing our struggles and embracing our vulnerability creates real connections rooted in authenticity and empathy. That in turn fosters a sense of unity within our community where the threads of experience are interwoven into the tapestry of our shared human experience.

In a world where we are encouraged to be in control, surrender can be liberating. It liberates us from the exhausting pursuit of dictating every outcome. When we surrender, we create space for unforeseen opportunities and providential moments to manifest organically. This liberation brings a newfound sense of freedom and levity. We can look to nature for lessons about surrender through its changing seasons. Just as trees release their leaves in the fall, surrendering to the rhythm of nature's cycle, we too can learn to let go of what no longer serves us. The barren branches of winter eventually give way to the rebirth of spring, reminding us that surrendering paves the way for renewal.

In seasons of uncertainty, collective surrender can be especially powerful. When we come together, sharing our burdens and our hopes, we create a space where individual surrender contributes to a collective sense of resilience. Here, no one person is immune to the act of releasing that which is not their burden to bear. Expressing the act of surrender verbally, explicitly, and with intention is a potent means to unburden ourselves. By identifying and releasing what we relinquish, we free ourselves from the weight that might otherwise hinder us from embracing our inherent value, purpose, and calling.

In a world that constantly challenges us, finding comfort in surrender is an act of resilience, faith, and courage. Surrender IS NOT conceding defeat; instead, a powerful act of embracing the unknown with open arms, trusting that the journey holds treasure untold. “Going Back 2 Give Back” strives wholeheartedly to embody this unity, reassuring you that you’re never alone on this journey. As we navigate this ever-unfolding landscape ahead of us and the journey of life itself, take a moment to reflect on areas in your life where surrender might bring comfort. What can you release to make room for growth? How can you embrace vulnerability and trust in the process? Let these questions guide your contemplation and encourage you to find comfort in surrender.
